stop calling me!

so lately we have been getting a ton of solicitation calls. they call every single day sometimes twice a day, i have tried not answering, so of course they try more to get a hold of you. i tried answering. they asked for matt, i said he was not here, what is this in regards to you since you call me every single day, he said some stupid money thing, i said he is definitely not interested, super snotty he says "how do you know?" i said excuse me he is my husband and i know! he said well don't you think matt is going to be pretty angry with you for letting him miss this opportunity, i said you are the rudest person, do NOT call here again! the next day, he or someone from that company called again, i did not answer.
we had a ton of calls for debts for someone that used to live next door to us, i had to go to great lengths to get those calls to stop, just short of a cease and desist order!
i went on line to the do not call registry and registered like i had done years ago and it seemed to help so we'll see what happens but i think i am calling the operator to find out a real number for them, it says 800 service on caller ID
so this morning at 5:15 a.m. someone called and i asked who it was, some sales call i told him he was calling hawaii and it was 5 in the morning, he did apologize and said "my bad" so professional and offered to call later, i was too tired to tell him not to call at all!
we are considering getting rid of our home phone but it just feels weird to me to do that, anyone have experience with that?
when i was a teenager i used to talk on the phone for hours, now i really don't even like to talk on the phone and i am really bad about returning calls! sorry. i just want the annoying people to stop calling me!!

Threaten to call the Better Business Bureau. If it's a legitimate business (and not a scam of some sort), they should back off. That is incredibly obnoxious. Either that or just tell them to hold on while you go get Matt, and just leave the phone on the counter. ;) Good luck!

I like the leave the phone on the counter idea.

We do not have a home phone and it has never been an issue. It felt a little strange at first, like if I had to reach Jordan and he had his phone on silent or something, but it really isn't that different.

I feel you! We've never had anyone rude call but it sure is annoying. If the caller ID isn't familiar, I just let the answering machine get it. I need to register on the Do Not Call list sometime.
