As i was saying...

matt and i hiked koko head. this was definitely outside my comfort zone. i almost just couldn't do it but matt pretty much forced me, promising a gluten free pizza afterwards. there are 1048 steps on this hike, straight up to beautiful views. i was scared but i did it!

it's hard to tell but straight up the middle is the path, you cannot get the full effect unless on it!
we made it to the top. i took lots of water breaks and 2 rest breaks. the second break i really was not sure i could do it. we were to the steepest part and it's hard to see the top. there is one section you have to go over railroad ties that underneath drops 10-15 feet. it poured down rain on us on the way up there. i thought i hated it until we went down and the sun was beating on us and it was hot!
this is at the top looking down and the stairs
                                            self picture taking!
                                                           hanauma bay to one side
                                                   hawaii kai to the right

koko head crater and sandy's on the other side
we have to go back down and i kid you not it is not easier than going up. i side stepped it because i was afraid of rolling down the whole thing.
i am really glad i did it. i felt like i conquered something. the next day one thigh was very sore, i am sure i used it first a little more going up on the big steps but otherwise not too bad. i am not sure about doing it again but i might...
the week before that we went to waimea bay to meet a bunch of friends for a potluck dinner and paddleboarding. my friend paige got a stand up  paddle board and i have been wanting to try it all summer. i loved it. you can see down in the water and it great excersize. i had a little trouble coming back against the current but it's something you have to get used to.

it was such a beautiful summer night! we really are lucky we live hawaii! we should take advantage more often!
p.s. thank you sonya, it worked!!!

you're welcome. I had the same problem earlier this summer.

Great pics. I love living here and wouldn't change it for the world. Glad you had a great time.

That is awesome! I miss our hikes at home because the views are so amazing! My brother got a paddleboard, so we took it to the lake yesterday. Definitely NOT the same as the beach, but it was some kind of body of water, so it was alright. I agree, it's great exercise and hard against the current.

Great pictures! I love hiking, but it's been WAY too hot and humid here in Missouri (or Misery as we are currently calling it). Nice job getting to the top of Koko Head!

I don't think you will have a problem with Pillboxes. If you can do Koko Head then you can do Pillboxes. Check out some youtube vids. . . it's not that bad and the veiws are stunning!

I want to try paddle boarding, but somehow I don't think we'll be able to see down into the water here in CA. I am very impressed you hiked up the stairs... I get sweaty just thinking about it. Everyone I know has done it, but definitely not me!!
