North Shore Triathalon

Caleb became interested in bike riding so matt bought him a bike and then signed them up for the north shore triathalon in waialua.the first race caleb has ever done. they had about 6 weeks to train. caleb didn't really do much but swim a few times, run a few times and ride his bike a fair amount. i think matt was really excited to have a child be interested in what he loves!
we had been at ward camp all week so they went to bed early fri. night and we were all up at 4:30 a.m. to head out to waialua.

it was cold and dark but you can always feel the excitement of everyone setting up, running back and forth to warm up and making sure everything is in place.

matt showing caleb how the swim will go and what to watch out for. it is an experience the first time you do a swim like this with everyone jockeying for a place in the water you get bumped and swam on top of but matt was going to stay with him for a little bit.
they got their numbers on and then it was just waiting for the start.

it was light for the 6:00 a.m. start, still a little cool but that's a good thing for the rest of the race.
heading down to the swim start
and they are off... a 400 M swim
hard to see the pack of people but they are right in the middle
out of the water, the race up the beach to the bikes

matt's off~ "good luck cabe"
caleb took a little longer dressing but matt has done this a few times

he's off for the bike ride. 10 miles.

caleb's time. i forgot to shoot matt's. i'll admit i was a little focused on caleb this time since it was his first.
they did it! together! caleb was happy and matt was thrilled! caleb did great for his first race, and not much training but next time he just wants to do a bike race.
it was a beautiful day in waialua and it was 8:30 by the time we were done so we went over to the farmers market which was wonderful and all weekend we had corn on the cob, tomatoes, zuchinni and peppers! i also got some beautiful sunflowers but they had so many bugs on them they have to sit outside!
