Kindle

my new kindle arrived. at first i really was not sure about it, it is cool and super light but i love having a new book in my hands and i was not super excited to use it. matt really thought that i would like it once i had it and i was hoping i would too.

i charged it up and read the introduction to it.
then first order of business was to buy mockingjay which i had been patiently waiting to read until the kindle arrived. i will honestly say it took me a long time to get into the book. i think because it was just hard to get used to sitting and reading on a screen but i have gotten used to it and think i like it. it is different than a book but it will be so nice to travel with. this book was only 8$. most are between 10 and 12$ so maybe i will actually save money on books.
matt is loving it. he has to buy new school books and he can just quickly download it, no shipping, no huge book and you don't have to find something to do with it when you are done. it does eliminate a lot of book clutter.
i am still getting used to it and am only on chapter 7 of mockingjay. it is weird to not see how far you are into the book, it just has a little percent sign at the bottom that says you are 23% into the book, i like seeing how much of the book i have left.
i know this will be a good thing i just have to adjust to the change, like always!

I think I would feel like you. I really like to hold a book and turn the pages. I also like to check my progress by looking at where the marker is when I close the book. I'm sure a kindle is great, but I love books. Sorry Matt.

Yeah, as cool as I think the Kindle is, I'm really a physical book kind of gal. For now. Plus, I loan out SO many of my books, and I'd be sad not to be able to do that with a Kindle.

Also, when you get frustrated with a book (such as one I read very recently that shall remain nameless...) you can chuck it at the wall. You can't do that with a Kindle. ;-)

I have been wanting to call and chat about the Kindle. Kanani got me one too, he is tired of all the books around the house. I am not sure how I feel about it. The screen is easy to read and it will be easy to travel with. I went and got a really cute purple cover for it - - maybe that will excite me!

I know! My iphone has this book app where you can read books on it, but it's just not the same as reading paper in your hands. But then again, Matt is right, it takes away from lugging around books everywhere, and at least it can fit in your purse! I think the Kindle is a great Idea, but I agree with Aunty Sondra, books are still better!

I just caught up on your last few blogs...I miss you guys:)
The book thing...ya, I just can't make the switch...I love the smell of a new/old book...I love my cluttered book shelf...
but then again, every road trip/vacation I bring about 5 books...Major pain carrying them around! So perhaps this would work for my travels:)
keep your book recommendations comming:)

What happened to "blogs I follow" down the side of your blog? I like to look at some of them and they aren't listed any more...where did they go?

I am still getting used to it too. Looking at the percentage isn't the same as seeing your progress in a real book. My in-laws all have kindles, so I was excited to be able to share books with them, but, half of them are Brian's dad's political commentaries that I am not interested in, and I am having a rough time getting into the rest. I want to read the Book Thief, b/c I've heard good things about it, but I just can't get into it! I checked out the physical copy from the library to see if it's the book I don't like, or the kindle. I also really wish I could download ebooks from the library-you can do it on the Nook, but not the kindle. ;(
