i woke up at the crack of dawn this morning waiting for nikki to come pick me up to go to makaha/waianaie to swim with the dolphins. we met some friends at the harbor and set about driving the coast to find the dolphins at 7 a.m. i guess they are early risers, it was barely light out! we drove down farther to yokahama bay (hope that's spelled right) and saw them! we unloaded about 10 kayaks and headed out to swim with the beautiful creatures!
i have always wanted to do this! kiley got to go with jon years ago and i have wanted to do it since. they went on a jet ski and left out of haleiwa which was quite a ride but such a special experience...
picture jon took of kiley with the dolphins. we have it framed and it is so special to me!
it was a jon kind of day everything reminded me of him! loading up everything, nikki making sandwiches on the tailgate of the truck, pulling the trailer. it was so jon. it is so much work and somehow he made it look easy. we miss him! nikki did a great job though and i really do appreciate all the work she did!
anyway we paddled out and saw them, all over! we swam from one pod to the other and then they would leave and come back. i saw them on top of the water, jumping out of the water and under the water. it was amazing! i know i sounded like a little kid on christmas with my squeals of delight everytime i was close but they are so beautiful!
after a few hours and with the wind picking up we decided to head back into the beach, it was a workout, all of it. the paddling, the swimming, the treading water but worth it. as we got closer to shore there was another pod. i tend to exaggerate but i really honestly think there were more than 30, we just sat and watched them not 10 feet away!
the day was perfect, so beautiful. makaha is a rougher side of the island and we tend not to hang out there but it is stunningly beautiful. i didn't take much with me to leave in the car but i just took a few shots with my phone.

unfortunately amber's purse got stolen out of the truck (hence the reason we don't hang out in makaha) and her and nikki's iphone's are gone. i really was sick about it and felt so bad for them. it takes the wind out of your sails after that day! other than that...
lucky we live hawaii! what a beautiful day!
