I was able to watch most of the inaguration this morning while getting ready for work. although i did not vote for Obama i feel like it is a time in our country for everyone to come together regardless of who you voted for. Barack Obama is now our president and i will pray that he leads this country as "one nation under God". He said that his father wasn't allowed to eat in restaurants in the same place that he will now be serving as President of the United States. That is pretty amazing. He said we are going to move past the dark chapters in our history and look forward with hope.( this is paraphrasing here). he said that we are extending a hand to nations if they would unlock their fists, i thought that was profound. He talked about nations that prosper helping those who are starving and about global warming. I do not know what will happen with the war, or many other things but i do know that for a lot of people this feels like a new day and i hope that he can change the things that are broken as he promised to do in his speech.
i heard neighbors cheering in thier homes, i do think it is good that people are excited and involved in the political process.
A new chapter in the history books starts today, January 20th, 2009!
P.S. 2 songs i really like that have been written for the celebrations are NEW DAY by wil.i.am and AMERICA written by david foster and sung by many people. for the next 24 hours, this is wed. afternoon, you can download america for free from oprah. com.
