conversations with a preschooler

i work in a special ed preschool class room, the needs are varied, some just have speech issues or behavioral issues, some are autistic but anyway the boy that i work with has behavioral issues and is quite a big boy:)
today i had to put him in time out for something, he has to settle down and sit before i can start the timer. i was telling him he was going to miss the next cool lesson about floating and sinking at the water table.
Me: they are going to learn a new thing about floating and sinking and you are going to miss it if you don't finish your time out
Boy:well i am fat so i can float, that is what fat is for so you can float, i have a chubby (patting his belly) you do not have a chubby so you are going to sink straight to the bottom!
well i had to turn away to smile and to cheer that i did not have a chubby! yeah for me!

i told the teacher about it she laughed and said now i know what to call my belly!
believe it or not, as crazy as it is i love working at school and with this boy even though i was spit on, hit and kicked today, we are working through it and it is getting better!

Well marj asked if he got to see the lesson, he did get to see the lesson, it was the teachers day to be observed by the principal, that is always nervewracking, she is a great first year teacher but you could see her nerves. the kids were so funny they had to guess what would sink and what would float, did you know a full water bottle floats, i guessed wrong on that one?! crayons float for a bit but then sink, a wooden block floats, the rest was obvious a hammer, a feather, an empty water bottle. it was fun for the kids but they have short attention spans and at a table filled with water you know what their temptation was! the teacher even got water splashed in her face but was cool due to the watcher :}

Funny . . .not about getting hit, kicked and spit on. . .but about the chubby.

My chubby likes to dance. All by itself. Sigh.

And I love the whole "will it float?" thing!!

Yes, I totally saw Caleb there with his girlfriend! They headed staight back to the line at the electronics dept. tho', and I was in the line at the front of the store (yes, WalMart actually had TWO separate lines for this!), so I know he didn't see us =).

It's so fun that everyone's so into it!

I love it---I fear I may float better than I like! Kids do say some of the funniest things. THey are usually good for some laughs!
