I will be subbing at Uka Elementary for about a month while an EA(educational assistant) in the special ed program is recovering from surgery. I have had a really good time, part of my day is taking the kids from their SPED classroom to be with the mainstream kids. I go to recess, music, and Hawaiian. I was so dissapointed, today i was supposed to go to Japanese but it was cancelled, i was hoping to come home with a few new words. i have learned the legend of Pele and how she came to live in the volcano on the Big Island and learned the Good Morning song in Hawaiian (well i can sing it when she does). On friday i get to go on an all day field trip to Waimea, that should be interesting with a "runner". I had my picture taken on picture day last week, that was something i wasn't expecting and not prepared for but it was just for my name badge, it better not show up in the yearbook. I have been working with one of the students i had last year that is mainstreamed now but still needs some reminders, it has been fun being in the kindergarten classroom. Those kids have a lot of energy and are still very young and
emotional, teachers have such a hard and important job, they don't receive nearly enough credit OR PAY, do something nice for your kids teachers, they deserve it, (most of them).
OH and being in a new germy environment i picked up a cold and have been miserable but i pushed through today and came home and took a nap and will hopefully get better with all the vitamin C, zinc, dayquil, benadryl and tylenol cold i have been taking. i will be washing hands better from now on.

Uuuhhhhh.......yeah you need to wash your hands now like 100 times a day? Just kidding, but you do need to wash frequently and if possible don't touch them to much. Hope you like your new job.
I hope you recover before Thursday! Breaking Dawn book club! It's so bad, sometimes when I touch the kids I think to myself, "I wonder how many germs are on my hands now?" You'd be surprised (and disgusted) at how many kids (girls & boys) don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. When we take class breaks I stand outside the door and quiz them as they walk out if they washed their hands or not! Luckily I didn't get sick enough to miss any school last week, but I slept for over 14 hours Friday night!
Kids are gross. =).
I make mine wash their hands the second they walk in the door after school each day. And they're not even allowed in the car after gymnastics until they've used that antibacterial hand stuff.
Your subbing job sounds really neat, though. Such a helpful and needed thing to do, too!
Oh, and come on over--I'll give you some new Japanese vocab any time!
