tid bits

i haven't had much to blog about lately! boring i guess. but here are a few tidbits.
today caleb wanted lunch from somewhere. matt and caleb decided burger king. i don't really eat burger king because there is not much there i can eat. i said it was fine though i would just take the burger off the bun. he brought home lunch and i opened my whopper junior and ~ took a bite out of the whole hamburger bun and all! i don't know what i was thinking, glutenous delirioum brought on by yummy looking hamburger, i think Sondra had me dreaming about steak and shake burgers! anyway i spit it out as soon as i realized and ate the plain old burger!

today caleb wanted to go to savers so i took him. that store is crazy, they have so many funny things. we were looking through the household goods and laughing at all the crazy things from the 70's that caleb wants to decorate his own house with. avocado green and mustard yellow! it is really quite amusing. he loves retro anything, clothes especially. he got a tan sweater vest. he dresses like an old man! we had fun and i love spending any time with him and his funny hobby of second hand stores!

yesterday i went to help our friend lola do some cleaning and purging (love that). i told her i would pick up some lunch so i stopped at jack in the box in wahiawa and ran inside. while waiting for my order this crazy old lady walked by me with a cup of hot water and yelled at me to get out of her way or she would throw hot water in my face! O.K.! i know she was out of her mind and probably on crack but still~ crazy!

and i haven't showered today but it is not required to go to savers in waipahu, or the jack in the box in wahiawa but neither are teeth for that matter!

cleaning up the crafts

i have gotten a little crafting bug lately. i used to scrapbook but have gotten out of it, i am not giving it up all together but for now am more into blogging which is much easier to make into a book than making the whole book. i am glad i haven't gotten rid of my supplies we have used them for many school projects and some crafting things but i thought i better organize it and purge what i don't need.

if anyone would like army stuff i have that to give away.
i wish i had a closet or a room but for now this caddy i bought at costco years ago has worked out pretty well. anyone wanting to get together to craft or teach me something let me know:)!

5 lives

I saw this thing that said if you could live any 5 lives other than your own what would they be?
i thought this was interesting to think about. i know i can actually do any or all of these things if i would put the time into them but it's more fun to think about doing them without the work!

A yogi!
i love yoga i have just gotten out of it. i was never at this level though and i would love to be able to be. i would love to go into any class and be able to do anything, go to a yoga retreat and not worry if i can keep up and i would really love~ in one of these dream lives~ to teach yoga to children or a mommy/baby yoga class. i am supposed to be starting again in feb.
A cowgirl
i grew up around horses but don't have an opportunity to be around them now and i really want to ride. i want my own horses. it would be nice if someone else took care of them. this is a dream life right?! matt always tries to tempt me to move to wyoming or some crazy place he is offered a job by telling me he will buy me a horse. basically i want to be pioneer woman but closer to the mall:)
A nutritionist
i guess if i had my dream job it would be to teach children and parents about eating gluten free either when they find out they have celiac disease or for autism or dietary needs.
A photographer
i love taking pictures i am just too lazy to learn about all the complicated stuff to make my pictures better. i really want to take a class next year though to take awesome pictures.
these next 2 go together. i just want to be crafty! i want to make beautiful, yummy cupcakes. someday jessica myer is going to open a bakery and i am going to make gluten free cupcakes~ this is our dream:) remember jessica?!
i want to paint and sew and make cute retro, shabby chic things. i love to make things i just need the idea and the directions!
what are your 5 dream lives? either use this as a tag or leave a comment!

Celebrate Rey

Today was Rey Mozo's funeral. It was a beautiful service, a day of tears, laughs and memories. His sons spoke, his wife Julia, Nikki and most special, and heart wrenching, the grandkids shared their memories of their "lolo". We had tons of food and are so grateful for all those who made or brought food. we really appreciate it. there are a lot of pictures but i have come to the realization that i want to use my blog as a rememberance and a photo album.Amber took some of the pictures, i love giving her my camera and it coming back with awesome pictures, she has her dad's talent. Rey was amazing and it was so neat to hear all the things he had done in his life, the countries he had been to serving his country and his loves like fishing and cooking. he served in the white house to 3 presidents and served celebrities and world leaders. there were cool pictures of him with pres. Ford and Allen told a story about going to camp david with his dad and riding amy carter's bike. there was a gold medal for 5 years of service in the white house. what an amazing life he had. he was loved by many including us!
the pictures are at the burial service.

lessons to learn

O.K. it is really starting to set in that caleb is leaving next year, i think even he is realizing it.
there are some things he really needs to learn before going to school:

first he really needs to learn how to use his debit card. he has had it since this summer and has been overdrawn 3 times. you would think that the card would be declined but it always takes it and he is charged 26$ .the problem is he checks the atm and if it says he has 5$ he will go spend 3 or 4$ that probably wasn't really even there. so he got a long lecture yesterday about keeping 25$ in your account and balancing your purchases not relying on the atm or online.
second he has to get up. i am still waking him at up at 17 years old. teenagers sleep that's what they do but he has got to learn to get up. i am sure he won't be scheduling classes at 6:30 a.m. which is when seminary starts but still- get up!!
third he needs to learn how to take a regular -say 15 min. shower. when i get him up in the morning he takes a 25-30 min HOT shower. his roomates are going to love their cold showers and hopefully break him of this habit. he also uses 2 towels every time, one for his body and one for his hair, and they are new every time! he will quickly learn those dollars for the washer and dryer go fast!
fourth he needs to learn how to use his money wisely. he has a pretty cush life especially being the only child at home, the baby, and a clothes horse so he has some learning to do about scrimping at college. he does have one thing going for him he loves the salvation army and savers and is so excited to get to DI (utah's form of goodwill) to check it out. caleb had no gas and i told him to take the recycling which we do both for the earth and for caleb's pocket money. he went and took it, got some money and went straight to salvation army where he proudly brought home several plaid shirts and some vests! i told him good luck with your gas! which of course i bought for him later (could that be part of the problem?!) .
we never had any of this with kiley, she was so independent and responsible, can you say B.O.Y?
there are several others such as food, entertaining yourself with no money, being happy on sunday just being at home enjoying the day, and probably a few more but for now these are the lessons he really needs to learn!

In Loving Memory...

Last night(1-5-10) our beloved "pops" died. Rey Mozo suffered from congestive heart failure for many years. he had his first heart attack over 15 years ago. he had been in and out of the hospital for as long as i had known him in the last 8 years. jon used to call tripler ICU his time share. he had many good years and some really bad months this past year being the most difficult but he always pulled through. Rey knew his time on this earth was limited and always made sure that arrangements were set, his wife would be taken care of and always told his 4 then 3 boys to take care of their mom which i know they will.
pops was able to come out to nikki's house to spend thanksgiving with us
and christmas where i posted before he was being very feisty at a game of rob your neighbor. he was known for his wonderful cooking and baking. just a week or so ago on new years eve he baked bread and delivered it to their friends and yesterday morning he was up cooking. he was able to live his life until the end when he went quickly and mostly painlessly which is how he wanted it , at home with no hospitals or drastic measures.
i love Rey. we have spent all of our holidays here in hawaii at their home or with them. he was a jovial, loving, giving man. he LOVED his grandchildren, his sons and daughter in laws along with sons girlfriends, exgirlfriends, their children and and on and on. He loved to cook. he served as a chef in the white house to several presidents. he is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. mostly he had a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and knew he would see his son Jon again and his family when it was time. last night the little ones said maybe now he is snowboarding or surfing with jon or fishing without oxygen or pain. i hope he is!
we love you pops, thank you for all the love you have shown our family. the meals you have cooked but secret recipes you kept secret! we will be there for your family. in loving memory.

The newest wolverine!

so i think caleb has decided on college... i guess he is decided he applied, was accepted and he confirmed with them! i think he can still change his mind!
Utah valley university is a 4 year college in orem, Utah. The Wolverine's. it is about 10 min. from BYU and almost as large. it has about 19,000 full time students. this has been a hard decision for me. i thought for sure caleb would be at BYU Hawaii. close by. small school. all the things i wanted but caleb has been very thoughtful about this decision and i think it will be good for him especially in preparing for a mission he needs to experience being away from home. It is not a church school but is very supportive of the church, religion class and missionary prep classes are offered in the curriculum and there are student wards for him to attend.
it is 24 degrees there today but he says that is ok. i think he is excited to experience a different climate and area for a while and he loves his flannel shirts. we haven't decided how many semesters he will attend before his mission and he might attend summer semester. either way i am starting to feel sad and have shed a few tears looking over the welcome packet. i can't believe in a few months i will have 2 kids in college! where did the time go. i am happy for him though. he is excited, i am sure a little nervous but we will never know about that. go wolverines!

Any day at Ko'olina...

is a good day! Matt's parents friends from our ward in st. louis have a time share at ko'olina. they were leaving early and we got to go hang out there for the day on sat. kiley spent the night there and quite enjoyed herself in luxury! i don't have very good pictures but maybe pictures of sunshine will warm some of you up:)

matt and i walked the property all the way down to the ihilani hotel. someone was setting up for a wedding, isn't this picturesque?!
