Lisa Ling

On Friday we went to see Lisa Ling speak. It was at the Sheraton at a womens conference called Herstory 2008. My Mom and i went with Kiley. Kiley has long admired Lisa for the work that she does. She is an international journalist for National Geographic and a contributor to Oprah. She does amazing stories that she wants people to learn something about. Her talk was amazing, she showed places she has been and stories she has done and they are really amazing. Her basic idea was that was should know the world we are living in. the things that other countries deal with and on the other side the good things that other countries do. one example was that in India women who are put in prison are allowed to take their children with them. I guess there have been studies that show that children under 5 don't really know their surroundings so as long as they are safe and with their mother it is better for them to be in prison with their mother than without her. At their prisons there is much less violence and disruption because there are children present.
She said she has struggled with her faith with all the horrible things she has seen, she said that her husband is a very faithful man and told her this. there was a man who saw a young girl, homeless and hungry and the man said to God, "why would you let this happen, why wouldn't you do something?" he said God said " i did do something, i made you". So her philosophy is when you know about it you can do something about it and that's what she feels like she is doing, helping people learn about the terrible things that are happening in this world. it was really amazing to see her, we were pretty far back so my pictures didn't turn out very well and i tried to get one as they took her out of the room past us. she is really pretty and poised. a very cool experience.

wow. I love this post you made. I'm going to become one of her fans, as well. What a great thing for you guys to do. I'm really impressed.

Those pictures were taken by my besty, Amber. She is my roommate. I live with my besties. Where is kathleen and kiley in my house? We have room for them.
Anyway, she's a photographer and she loves me so she loves taking pictures of me. I do love the honu pictures and would gladly love to bask in that same sun as soon as pretty autumn is over.
Aunty kelly, thanks for looking at my blog.
It makes me feel remembered.
Yours is great. I admire you.
