Christmas in Hawaii

I have interesting feelings about Christmas, i am not one of those people that dies for Christmas every year, i am weird i know. i just think that it becomes a really stressful time for people, both financially and mentally and i just don't think that is what christmas should be about so it bothers me.  i also don't like clutter and christmas decorations are a lot of clutter. i think it is beautiful at other people's house but i just don't go crazy with it and this year is even slimmer b/c i don't want to put it away later. there are things i love about Christmas- Christmas music, getting together with friends and family and buying my kids presents when i know what they really want. there is also something that i love, anything that represents the Savior.(like my nativity button to the right) My mom started my collection of the willow tree nativity scene, this year it wouldn't fit under the tree so i put it on top of the entertainment center. We are going to Utah in 2 weeks to vacation with Matt's whole family. we haven't been with our family on Christmas since we have moved to Hawaii so i am excited. it also makes presents very easy, there aren't really any, just a fun trip and possibly a video camera to remember it by, we have never had one and i think caleb would enjoy it.(shhh)

i posted my tree because Christmas in Hawaii is just different. Matt and i went out in our shorts and slippers to buy a real tree because i thought it would be easier since we were leaving to just throw it away on our way out. we usually have a fake tree and i remember why now.
the tree is so soft and i don't know if it is because it is so warm or what but i could not put half my ornaments on it because it either made the tree limbs hang so far down or they wouldn't stay on and i don't want them falling off and breaking, so this year it is pretty simple.
i hope we can all remember the real reason for the season and not get caught up in material things. have fun traditions like christmas stories with hot chocolate or dressing up like the nativity scene and reading the christmas story or doing something nice for someone else.
Merry Christmas season!

Isn't the Willow Tree nativity just beautiful? I covet it each year. (So much for not focusing on material things, eh?)

Oh, and I'm all about the Christmas clutter. I absolutely love to decorate for Christmas! And drink peppermint hot cocoa and hot apple cider, listen to endless Christmas music, read Christmas stories, and wear Santa hats and jingle bells around the house! And wrap presents while doing all of the above =).

I'm sorry your little Christmas tree isn't holding up that well. So much for what I know, I just didn't think pine trees grew in Hawaii. Maybe one of these days I'll get to go there and see for myself! I just wanted to say that I have so much fun reading your posts. It's fun to keep up with you and you're just so honest and funny to read. That'll be so nice to be with all the Bishops for Xmas in Utah. That'll be quite a large group... but you'll all have a blast!

Cute, cute new background! I miss Hawaii Christmas. It really is surprisingly different, but you're right in that it's the reason we should be remembering. If it makes you feel any better our stupid tree doesn't hold the ornaments either & it's freezing here. And I didn't realize you haven't been with family for Christmas since you moved there. I'm really excited for you guys!
